ACCOMODATION
Rooms at the Marriott are $92/night each, regardless of number of guests scheduled for the room, as long as you ask for the Geek.Kon room block and rate.

REGISTRATION
Pre-Reg (until August 15th) = $25
At Con Weekend = $30
Day Pass (Saturday) = $20
Day Pass (Friday or Sunday) = $15

WHAT IS IT?
Geek.Kon is Madison Wisconsin's very own anime convention, sci-fi convention, and gaming convention all rolled into one! As the name implies, Geek.Kon is a place to celebrate all that is geeky from strong foundations in anime, science fiction, video gaming, tabletop gaming, and costuming to up and coming fandoms like steampunk and gothic lolita. This year the convention will be celebrating its 5th year with a combination of attractions from Geek.Kon's past and new ones to shape its future. Geek.Kon 2011 will truly live up to the theme "unstuck in time".

Disclaimer:
a.k.a. What I learned from last year:

Issue: All rooms are on second floor or higher, there are only two glass elevators.
Remedy: But there still is the fire escape stairs.

Issue: The internet is not free, and the speeds have been reported as being "craptastic".
Remedy: Use your cellphone internet if applicable, it will be faster. Seriously. Plan on downloading files prior to arrival or go to nearby restaurants that have free wifi.

Issue: Jackboot Security
Remedy: Don't be sarcastic

Issue: Noise Complaints.
Remedy: Sucks. Don't try to rave in your room. It's not to the level of "can't watch anime as a group". It's just that you can't safety dance. But we can still be friends.

Issue: Food.
Remedy: No issue. The convention sells some food, but the hours are kind of strict. Half of the courtyard area is a bar and restaurant. There is fast food and higher-end chain food down the road(s) but you have to drive. Worst case, it's Madison and food can be called in.

Issue: Parking.
Remedy: At least it is free. Hotel area parking probably full. Convention area has its own entrance and its own parking. The walk will be longer, but there will be enough parking for everyone as the parking lots are huge.

Alas, convention times are upon us. Since I didn't attend some of the previous conventions, I'll give this one a shot. As per usual, the hotel guy needs to know if multi-room reservations are necessary.

Convention financing can be arranged. Loan Landshark Prinny Squad is open for business.

It might be a hassle a little bit out side the con, but I think the con itself will be worth it.
I can understand the hotel being ancy about things though, it's a Marriott and they don't take your shyte! lol

situation normal, I paid my registration today with maybe 3 hours to spare.

I like cooking my registrations to beyond well-done, to the level of charcoal.

The hotel is completely booked at this point. Which is kinda amazing.

Schedule is up. Somebody really wanted to set it in stone early this year.

Also. It seems like there's going to be no focus on "geek" in terms of S.T.E.M. topics. Just anime, fantasy, and writing (tutorials, sci-fi, presentation). This narrows the focus at least-- granted it is hard to talk about alternative energy or orbital mechanics seriously with a panda on your head.

Opening ceremonies are at 2 on Friday. There's karaoke both nights. Some stuff starts on the half-hour instead of on the hour. The Saturday mixer doesn't seem like it goes very late (9-1). I see some revival of Dungeons and Dragons. Closing ceremonies at 4 (!) on Sunday.

2PM-3PM WIS. Opening Ceremonies
If my accommodations are set by 2PM, I will be attending the Opening Ceremonies, seeing as how it's go-to for most first time attendees. It may also help me determine what I wish to attend throughout the con.
4PM-5PM MEN. Coolest Science Fiction of the 21st Century.
Figured that it would be interesting to listen to and also may find out some new things.
5PM-6PM WIS. Geek Chic Fashion Show
Fashion show for us geeky girl types. 'Tis a must see!
6PM-9PM G. Masked Ball
Not sure what it is, but might turn out to be fun to pop in and do for a little while.
9PM-1AM MED. Con Horror Stories (18+)
Nothing better then laughing at someone else's past traumas. Seeing how it's for adults only will insure some really juicy stories!
11PM-12AM G. Who would win in a fight? (Sci-fi)
I know there will be a Kirk vs Piccard somewhere in there. All that is needed.
12AM-1AM G. Geek Dating (+18)
I've attended these before, and they are fun discussions, especially if you're not currently in a relationship. Also a great place to hear more funny stories!

Sounds like a usual night for me to be perusing around the intarwebs, and it only gets funner with other people to share with.

Figure some fun can be had here, and I do enjoy some nice comedy to wake me up. Granted, I'll still need some coffee hehe.

Haven't attended one of these in awhile, and I'm not expecting A+ works, but maybe I'll be surprised.
2PM-3:30PM G. Girls, Geeks and Gaming
Sounds like a general "You'll like this if you're at this con" kind of thing, so I figured why not? That and not much else was going on anyway.
6:15PM-9PM WIS. Masquerade
The seating for it doesn't start until 6:30PM so I'll be prepared to play some PSP or drawing till they open up. Why am I so eager to see a bunch of stuck up people go on stage and expect me to be impressed? I don't really know, but I do enjoy seeing all the creativeness others express, and I'm usually very impressed by the end of it. I don't mind waiting either lol!
