WausaubiconA first year convention being held in the Wausau area. www.wausaubicon.com/July 8-10, 2011 Plaza Hotel Wausau, WI Registration: Mail Only March 31 to June 15: $30 for three-day pass At-Con: $35 for three-day pass Hotel RoomsDouble Rooms: $69 per night Two-Room Suites: $99 per night King Whirlpool Rooms: $82 per night
This is the premier of this convention and I'm lucky enough to be on the staff for it, since you all know, Wausau is my home town. So far we have three guests confirmed: Chris Ayres, Josh Grelle, and Daniel Mohr. Pre-reg is still open, and is the same cost as for NoBrandCon, but was cheaper up until the end of March, right now it's at 30$ for the three day pass. There will also be an artist alley as well as vendors. I'm pushing REALLY hard for an AMV contest, which I would be running and judging, but budget is pretty tight for this first year considering all the equipment that is required to show the amvs and everything involved. More information is to come soon, after I attend the next meeting.

Okay so update:
There's plenty of room left for panels, should you guys want to hold one. I'll be holding one on the history/general info on Magical Girl Anime.
I'm working on tracking down a projector for the amv contest so we can have one, but so far no luck. If you guys have any info on who I can borrow one from for the con, without charge, it would be nice to hear.
There's talks of a boffer room in the process.

The idea of a DZX panel has been thrown around quite a bit, bit never seems like too popular of an idea. I think it would be great to be honest, we've always sort of wanted a place to show off our AMVs at a con and such. However, we cant just fill all our time with that, so we'd have to do some questions and talk about a few things... its been asked before what we could talk about, and Ive come up with a couple ideas. Some are pretty general, but we could make a diverse panel that way, and talk about our vids, and the AMV community as a whole; 1. Show our vids (duh. new to old, we could use up any free time we have with this, so its automatically a great backup, even if our panel sucks, which it won't ) 2. How to get started with making AMVs; footage sources, editing software, resources, ect. 3. AMV making theory; building a story, matching visuals to music, lip sync, gag-me's ect. 3. Talk about prominent/influential members in the AMV community. (Phade, ect... ) Also, influential studios such as Aluminum and Doki Doki. 4. Notable videos in AMV history. 5. A look at the AMV community outside the US and Japan. ( I hear the Russians are pretty good at this sorta thing... ) 6. The Seether, Evanescence, and whoever the third band was, legal incident. o.o 7. A quick look back at some past members of DZX and their vids. 8. A quick look back at DZX's own shady past and history. 9. General Q + A for the audience. Those are the topics, but what would really be the most important element is getting people to host it. @_@ Im in with whoever wants to be onstage with me....

Was there talk of a themed AMV contest or would it be a general entry/category layout? MikuMikuDance entries would be interesting. The DZX panel, eh? Would have to rent out a projector again. And guessing we'd have to speak a little louder without any microphones? It sounds like there are some unofficial attendees interested for this convention and preparations should begin. Post if you are attending and/or need a room.

Well, as for the whole con, I am about... as many as ten blocks away from the hotel and have a huge backyard in which people can camp in. I only have one spare bedroom though, and then of course my bed, but the only people I willing to share my bed with are Phycux and WonderSaiyan, mainly because Phycux is my bf, and well WonderSaiyan is a chicku.
Anyways, regarding panels, its suggested that you guys register one as soon as possible. I'm in the works of tracking down a projector, they don't sound too expensive and with proper fund raising I can afford one, that's if the staff is okay with the whole fundraising schpeel. Either that or I'm going to have to pull some strings. Now this would be a projector for the AMV contest, but would be open to use of close friends, as I would be using it for my Magical Girl panel as well.
I suggest joining the forums as well, there's not much on there right now, but a lot of the talking is happening there when it's not happening at meetings, as well as on the Facebook page.
@sk, it actually sounds like a good idea, but I think it would be more appropriate to separate some of those things, you could do something primarily based off of DZX, it's history and stories, and then if you want my opinion, I think it would be a cool idea if you guys hosted a panel on AMV making 101, I mean who's better qualified? Plus I'd be willing to help out... >.> If you'll let me. Other wise I was planning on making one myself, but I really don't want to spread myself too thin considering the Magical Girl panel I have in the works is gonna steal my soul and sell it to the devil for a penny. A wheat penny. Any panel is a welcome panel in my book, the more we have for panels, the less bored attendees are going to be.
@ac: I see what you did thar... Also, in terms of what kind of AMV contest it would be, it's going to be kept rather simple. There would be several different categories, and awards such as a WTF award and Judge's Choice amongst others. I mean it's going to be open to anything, because a lot of things are considered AMV's and if it has a fan community, it probably has MV's. Hell I'm considering a separate category for T.V. Shows, so people can get their geek on even harder. As for themes, not really. Maybe in the future for special reasons. But yeah.
Someone needs to get Seph to come and do another Godzilla panel, I missed the one at Daisho last year and it was the ONLY panel I really really really really really wanted to see. T.T

@ Lea: Sounds good to me; I realize the list of things I came up with is pretty fragmented, but the idea was to come up with as many different topics as possible. When the idea of a DZX panel has been proposed before, the big question was always, "Well, what would we talk about?" See list above. Out of those, we could probably divide everything into 3 different categories: 1. How-to and getting started. 2. History of the AMV community and its influential people, websites, and videos. 3. History of DZX (no, not the video..... well maybe <.< ) And of course you can help if you'd like! So far I couldnt think of a clear task for ya, but time will tell~

*Stumbles in* Sorry guyz, was making the biggest footprint in Hollywood history... Anyways, Wausabicon is a hesitant possibility for me. As for another Godzilla panel? Highly unlikely, might save that for a second year at Daisho Con (and revamp/update the panel a little bit).

June 15th is the cut off for $30 preregistration for those going.
As an update for my status, I will not be attending WausaubiCon this year since it currently falls after Distant Worlds. If enough people decided to go, I could attend the Sat-Sun days. Late Friday could be possible seeing as how Waffles went to KitsuneKon at 2am. ;p
As for our own panel(s), would you consider DaishoCon? AMV Making 101 and DZX panel could become a reality. As we mentioned last night, we certainly have information gathered over the many years of study. Room parties are fun too~

hmm. is rule34 being applied to the pop-tart itself or the girl inside? don't answer that.
and no. if I feel I must "force myself" to go to something as it is in this instance, it probably means I shouldn't go. $35 drops the snickers bar out of my hands: the feast is ruined.
I'll be interested to hear how the SailorMoon thing goes, though.
