It's certainly some very pretty footage to edit. The animators put so much blurring, bloom, and contrast to each scene... its like they used After Effects for you. It can have its downside though and introduce some unexpected noise/color banding directly from their modifications. It's important to keep as much of their work possible while still getting rid of noise and blocking. Dark blue, grays, and blacks are the only colors that need attention. Trying a new filter technique that detects a motion threshold on the screen to optimize stills and reduce any noise that would be created on low motion/static images. This footage is WAY different than Azumanga Daioh. Looks like something from my Avenger video, but with zero modifications! ;D

Funny how its nearly 1 year since the first post and I'm back to thinking about it again. Long break, long break... Super serious editing is plenty intimidating at this point of our creation history. Plenty of AMV awards have slipped by rather than putting some life and energy into a swift project rather than a monster staring us down (in this case, uber moe' uguu big eye'd~ness). And this one was after another planned uber project. Alas, this one needs to be brought into this world eventually. A ton of HHD space is for this project, but I might need some editing momentum to start up again. Hmmmmm.....

Indeed I am curious.... all these years, all this time past, and the majority of the project remains a mystery... Just letting you know that Im interested in seeing the final product, and perhaps give you that needed push...

I'm just going to inconspicuously drop by here instead of perennially haunting you all on Facebook. Though it looks like not much has been going on >_> I was just thinking about all of you and reminiscing. The girlfriend and I finished watching Haibane Renmei and I went on a hunt to find some music videos to show her. Then I found some good old (literally old) DZX vids and felt like coming here. Hope all is well

Nice to see ya! I was re-watching episodes of Haibane Renmei last weekend actually. It's been an AMV idea that I still carry since my college days in 2007-08 and was the uber project I referred to earlier. Great ones are tough to find... did you find Vlad Pohnert's Deliverance? Some evenings its fun to dig into the full archives of old AMVs - especially if you've ever had the chance to hook up a projector or HDTV. Hours of entertainment. Even the ones back from 2001 or earlier. (yikes!) It's been pretty quiet at DZX in terms of productions. Social gatherings happen behind the scenes, but the blue glow of editing has escaped me for a long time. There's been some discussions and developments however, so not all is lost. <pokes Sephy and Sqiky> It's an annual discussion if the website/forum stays. It's hard to say goodbye to home, but whatcha think? It seems like a blog would be more appropriate instead of aging pages.

I did not download Vlad's vid...until just now. And I shall be watching it and sharing it with the girlfriend, I'm sure. Thanks for the rec!
I still have a drive or two filled with AMVs lying around. I watch now and then, but there were never too many aficionados at my high school or college. Anime and game lovers? Yes. AMV? Tiny handful.
Glad you all are still able to get together despite being post-grad professionals now. Woot for that.
The website and forum serve little purpose other than nostalgia at this point (and boy did I get some nostalgia). I don't know how much you all pay for the server space. If it's none or negligible, posterity is always nice. But otherwise, an archiving might be in order with compensatory switch to a new format. But it's strange to think how much has changed in the last ten years...
