Windows 7 Upgrade Software 50% OffThis is definitely a very relevant offer. The upgrade software to move from XP-to-Win 7 or Vista-to-Win7 is 50% off for pre-orders right now on both Newegg and Best Buy. The only upgrade versions available for this deal are for Windows 7 Home Premium ($49) and Windows 7 Professional ($99), so there's no hope of upgrading up to Windows 7 Ultimate at a discount price. However these upgrades work for any previous version of XP or Vista, so you can technically upgrade from XP Home to Windows 7 Pro in theory. I've been using Windows 7 for a while now, had the Beta installed on my old machine and the Release Candidate is currently the operating system for my new machine and I would definitely recommend upgrading to it if possible. It pretty much does everything Vista was supposed to do and I've run into no stability issues with it, unlike my experiences with Vista. Seven also seems to be a little more friendly towards lower end systems compared to it's unwanted brother in Vista as well. So for a hundred bucks (with free shipping) I might go up on this offer, although if you're looking for the Windows 7 Ultimate package it will still cost you a bit more.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. Supreme Commander runs fine for me on the Windows 7 RC. Plus I guess these upgrade discs come with the option to run Windows XP on it in a virtual environment or something too.

ah, ok. i thought it was saying that only versions above home were compatible with programs built for xp, but it's just that pro and above have built in xp virtual machines so that there will be no compatability issues just in case. yeah, i think i now what my next check is getting me.

Wait till teh server variant comes out. the server variants are always more stable then the home type. I'm using server 2008 and it is hella better then vista is. server seven autta be much better then home seven. the home type has so much bloat in it.
the vista ISO files are close to 4GB while my s2008 copy was 2.8GB. and once installed on the hard drives take up much less space. it may take longer to boot up but you can leave it running longer. Plus it don't have the drm and other bad consume crap in it. do the workstation conversion and you've got one pimp setup.

The 2.8GB install that somehow takes longer to boot up then Vista, for example, is the tip of issues i'd have with them. A server OS has alot of bloat to it too, just a different kind then home systems. Plus, comparing anything to Vista and assuming thats what Windows 7 is like isnt a valid assumption... 7 really is that noticeably better then Vista. Plus, since its geared towards home machines and my machine very much is a home machine id much rather buy software designed for it. Plus with your current setup, dont you have to reinstall the OS every 4 months or something? For some of my programs and games (and with games that use DRM, that would become a HUGE issue even if the publisher allowed you to lift/move installs). Interesting... I'll have to consider this. I wonder how it would run on my laptop... Considering I saw a Lenovo T41 laptop with specs barely serviceable for Vista run Win7 with very little issue, if your laptop can run Vista well I don't see any reason why 7 wouldnt run the same if not better.

Not reinstalling, just issuing ONE command (batch file) every 3 months. I got it permaactivated now with no problems. It's another batch fille I used.
I also think that 7 removes more features and has more "phone home" stuff. I hear it has more spying tech in it and the DRM is heavier. It also has an inferior build of WMP in it.
I am personally wating for MIDORI and going to get an SSD drive for my next system. I might shoot for seven server.
I prefer server variants becuase I am more tehnically savy then the majority of users. I use alot more stuff then most. and I like the fact if I want a server I got one!
Don't hold your breath on using the free RC for long. You must get a full version in february becuase in march they will make it restart every 2 hours and every hour starting in april.

I just wish more people made more 64 bit applications! Adobe is one culprit. we want 64 bit flash! I want to be able to run the much faster 64 bit IE! That is prolly the biggest thing holding back 64 bit adoption!
