Otakon 2008

When: August 8 - August 10, 2008
Where: Baltimore, MD
What: A city overrun by Otaku for one of the most successful anime conventions on the east coast.

I'm actually gonna be there this year! That is...after my class Friday morning. But I will be there.

My only other issue now is trying to decide what to Cosplay as...because it would indeed be quite enjoyable to do something other than the...bizarreness that I did 2 years ago. Heh.

Zacloud suggested that I cosplay as Bax (or one of his lookalikes). I've also thought Kadaj could be a possibility...if I could find that much leather and make my hair look silver instead of brown or gray. Cuz it's the right length and all...

Thoughts?

For the Kadaj gear, really you could use any semi-shiny cloth. One can improvise pretty fun-ly with a little imagination. For example, my Cloud Strife costume... Made the durn thing the couple days before Detour (and even some during), made the hip-cape out of scrap cloth from Mooly-Mart for 79 cents (just was lucky it was the right size!), shirt was bought and I removed a sleeve, pants were already owned (although not the same kind as his, close enough)... and for all those belts? Wide black ribbon, and metallic-painted cardboard for the buckles. ^_^;;

Hope you can pick out something; cons are always fun regardless, but being another character has its own different level of awesome.

Totally stoked, and it'll be cool to see you again! ;D

I'll have to jet towards pre-reg after my class is over (which it should be by 8, or 8:30 at the latest). I should be able to get into Baltimore by 9 or 9:30...I hope. Cuz it would suck to have to stand in line on Friday...when I should hopefully be able to get there by 2 or 3. I've got a makeup exam at 12:30 once my class is done (cuz I was sick last Wednesday and missed crap), but I'll get there as soon as I can.

Unfortunately, while I had initially hoped to cosplay as Kadaj or someone else, Organic Chemistry has kept me too busy to gather supplies or do any funsies, so I will simply cosplay as myself. See you there! Wooooot!

Teh Matt-like one says he has map storf taken care of. So w00t and yay. Plus, he be takin' a lappy-like thang or two so we cans l00k at the map he has saved on thar if need be.

I would have loooooved to go but we are so dead broke after buying a new computer and some other stuff. Mabye me Andrakon, ZC and anyone else who wants to, can go to a more local convention and have fun there! anything after november is fine. I want some time to play fallout3 and recover financially. February-april is when we are best off it seems. We will see what happens. I got portal and oblivion to keep me occupied for now and later.... fallout3!

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeell, Ohayocon is way more local....aaaaaaand it's after November
(It's actually Jan 30-Feb 1st next year....much later than before)

And, of course, Detour is in early April!;D (yay for income tax season:P)


And uh.....you never got to see the Detour pics cuz for some reason I never uploaded most of them. There were a lot of compy probs for many weeks after Detour, and there have been many since, so I kinda just....forgot about them >_>


I need to make room on the camera, and the compy has been behaving (kinda...@_@) So....yeah. I may leave a lil eye-candy on here before we run off. That is, if I don't over sleep @_@

At least for ohayocon I don't have to get a room if I don't want to since one day will prolly be enough. I also got a van I can put a matress in easily. He he.

We made it here pretty darn quick (for the first time ever! Normally get here after the sun is gone..) And since Matt is a compy nerd and interbutts addict, we has sum lappehz! So we all can pester the board a lil here an' thar Wooooooooot!

It's true, I was glomp'd twice. Annette swung the door open and nearly took me through the wall. Twas funsies! Then we played guitar hero. Tomorrow, I'm bringing Rock Band--and if I can find my video camera, I may be able to give live action footage of the awesome of Otakon!

Well, twas like a reunion party with SP since it's been awhile since we've seen him
I was a crunchyroll slave for a lil while today...got me a t-sgirt for it so woot ^_^

Getting ready to go and get lost in the massive dealer's room now @_@ (if they didn't close it et...grr...) Haven't taken any pics yet cuz the batteries died....yay. ANYway......off I go! ;D

So there were no problems with us staying on the interwebz all weekend, cuz the net went down by day 2. But oh well. We managed anyway--and did eventually leave the hotel. After playing Battle Stadium D.O.N., Rock Band (where I heard the legendary Samantha Sabotage scream--wow), Guitar Hero III, and...one of the DDR games...we traipsed through Baltimore, wading through over 26,000 Otaku (and the rest of the bewildered Baltimore citizens and tourists) to get the convention center. It was three days of repeated awesomeness.

The only major disappointment for me was that the legal advisors of Otakon recommended due to decent fuss that they not play the trailer/parody category at the AMV Contest (or any other trailer/parody vids). Apparently, this is due to the copyrighted nature of Warner Bros and Disney logos (among others). The decision was met with lots of boos, but I hope to look the vids up soon anyway. I'm sure that the AMV.org community will organize some kind of vote, though.

Though I'm tired now, and I have a lab in just over 8 hours, and I have to prep for it and crap. So I will report more later. I has pictures and vids and such. Woo!

And... I found a clip of some folks jamming at the new Club Otaku just started this year. And that's SP a little before the 1 minute mark coming up and joining in on bass. (Though Mr. OMG KEYBOARD steals the show, hehe, very cool!)
