Wow... I can't stop downloading all the glitter, effects, and stuff never seen before! The music is also out of this world... and I only started! As anyone can see on the forums, it looks like "Spoil" is highly recommended. ...Phade's bandwith must be endless at this point. Thanx for pimping our AMVs!

Ahh yes, Spoil... It does just that if you haven't seen Death Note! (Not too badly mind you but still ) There's definitely some good ones out there. This should prove fun and interesting. And you're welcome; they're both awesome vids and deserve attention. ^_^

Waaaah, if they weren't working me so ragged I'd watch tons of AMVs. As it is I've hardly got to see any. I hope I get a chance before the semi-finals are over so I can vote where voting is due. (5 more days from now more or less) What's cool is they have a queue feature so you can download all the vids in a category at once. Very nice! Yaaaaaay!!! My Friggin' Horse vid is in the semi-finals in the Dance categoryyyyy! What a pleasant surprise! That already makes me happy as heck. :3 Means plenty of people get to notice it exists, and thus watch it, and (hopefully) enjoy it if it suits them. That pretty much accomplishes what I want with my videos. ^_^

Whoooo~! Congrats.
Many posters recommended the video after seeing the nonstop dancing without a single break in the movements. Figure skating vs football as you stated.
Looks like we'll have yet another thing to add to our website update coming soon~ ;D
It's dance time!

Results are posted as of yesterday. www.animemusicvideos.org/members/amvvca/2009/Some that I voted on didn't win... but otherwise, it was an okay year. Nostromo is one of my favorite directors, but I think he didn't need the "Most Improved" category. He's.... kinda always been good. I think that award should go to the lesser known directors... but popularity in the masses will always win out.

Oi... I basically checked the website ONE day before the final winners were announced. I knew they were going on, but didn't say or do anything to gather involvement... or even vote this year. 0_0;;;
This year's winner, Property of a Lady, is far less in your face and action-y packed than the usual end of the year winners. It is very subtle in its artistically smooth transitions of mostly seamless object panning. That, and I watched Goldeneye last weekend. Good stuff!
Probably some of the best use of Andrew Kramer's Evolution and Riot Gear footage in an AMV that I've seen. Others seem to put it out of place or use it exactly how they did in the tutorials.

Yeah, I'd have to say of the winners, my absolute favorite was "Property Of a Lady". This was a case of using effects perfectly for a specific purpose. It used the natural beauty of the characters' shapes and motions in a way that respects their original animation, and blending the flow with the music in a way that elicits strong emotion with visual poetry. A superb Bond opening sequence style, with great use of additional effects for extra "wow" factor, emphasizing rather than hiding the movement of the characters. Absolutely beautiful.
My second fav was a no-effects-at-all vid, "This is Halloween". That was a perfect source-match and the edits were paced well to let each scene speak for itself. Really fun in a creepy way, using action-sync and lyric matching, and letting the sources weave the atmosphere together. I'll make that part of my future Halloween viewings. :3 (They have both a regular and special edition, the latter of which uses the original Nightmare Before Christmas version.)
"Vortex: Recycled" was too much editing too fast. A classic example of overdoing it. Made the visuals all blur together and thus they lost their meaning. It might as well have been a bunch of blinking lights at this point. Nice attempt at action-sync in the beginning with the swords, but the timing could have been tightened better. Too bad cuz the song rocks and so much work went into this... but yeah, this is what overdoing it looks like.
"De:Light"... I honestly can't say how I feel about this one. It's technically awesome, visually awesome, conceptually brilliant, and kickass. But I don't like it for some reason. Maybe I'm just that badly off from my health, I dunno. But it's a great concept, awesome analysis for potential series to watch to see chicks kick butt, hehe. The overload was well built up toward. But the end was a bit ambiguous. The computer seemed to temporarily be forgotten again until the credits but didn't all-out crash either, so maybe that lack of closure of the concept bothered me, I dunno. But still a recommended video and worthy winner. Just a matter of taste I guess as to whether or not one likes it. (I'll try watching it again when I'm not all messed up)
"Fragrance" ends up in the same boat as Vortex... overdoing the edits. Speed-ups and quick-cuts galore. The action-sync is spectacular, in fact it seems the editor was going very much for action-sync which is one of my absolute favorite AMV elements. But... too much was sacrificed in the attempt to do this much of it. So many parts were sped up so that each move would be on a beat or nuance, that it makes my eyes go out of focus and the visuals lose their meaning. Once in a while a part slows down enough to bring me back, but then it all slingshots off again and I keep being left behind. All I can do is cringe at the whiplash the characters would be getting at flopping around that fast. I just can't bear to watch it a second time. Which sucks because a ridiculous amount of work went into that action sync, and I always love action-girl videos... Blargh.
"D-On" was creative, interesting combinations, and mostly great engineered effects. But, it seemed the creator was better at fancy effects and edits, than at visual flow and picking of scenes when it comes to conversations. "I'll stick the guy here". What about resizing him properly? "I'll have them say this then this" What about making the scenes look congruous? It cheapens the lip-sync to keep switching their appearance and angles so much. Most of the time, their expressions or positions didn't match the mood of what they were saying, or were poorly composed (not facing the screen, etc). And when the girls were doing their singing, it only looked like they were rocking out at the very end, not soon enough. Too little of their visual actions worked with the music until the very end. At least the DMC parts were awesomely done in that regard. Overall, a good idea with work put into it, but falls flat in its execution at several points, so it's a mish-mash of good and bad. Up to the viewer to decide which outweighs the other. (Surprised the .org allowed this as it was though, with that face-full of underage arse I would have loved not to see (they could have picked something funny for that part, really...), and the use of "Fuckingham Palace" as the closing credit song (yay! XD))
"Baka Dance" ... Seriously? Blind Guardian did a cover of Barbara-Ann?! XD That's crazy! Ok, as a vid, it's hyper and fun. Great use of action sync, and mostly very fun clips, though a few go outta my comfort zone and a few others are just... weird. o.o There's probably better out there without such drawbacks, but it's certainly not a bad video, quite fun, and well done.
"Time" I had to stop due to spoilers; I haven't gotten to see that yet. But from what I did watch, the lyrics seemed so perfect, and the editing perfect, so this looks like it deserved its slot if it keeps up what it started with.
"Clash" ... didn't know what it was. So neither do I. Upbeat and action and wrenching scenes were all treated the same in terms of what kind of music they happened during. It was just confusing and disorganized. Characters were shown in the intro as if to, you know, introduce them, but then the significant looking dude was only flashed for an instant in the video itself. Some WTF, then some slice of life that was surprisingly insightful, then suddenly OMGWTF he's dead, ok he's not, ok someone has a paw I think, ok monsters, ok monsters more, ok he's dead or maybe not I dunno. Um, the end? Yeah... Surely something better was out there to vote for...
"We Need You" was a great parody! Very very well done, great blending of sources and lip-sync and character/anime choices. Just awesome! Watch it! XD
"Butterflies of God", says everything for itself so I can't say much. It's beautiful, poetic, uses effects in a gentle and pretty way which accentuates the scenes without removing their significance. It's emotional and memorable. I really liked it.
"Kawaii Girls: Ultimate Dating Simulator" was, hehe, yes, silly. And it's meant to be. Well blended visuals when used, and well put together. The only beef is the announcer pronouncing it like "kowai" which is like, the total opposite, but oh well, chalk it up to American accent I guess. Silly vid, earned its spot.
"ChillOut"... Wow. Now that was creative as heck. Awesome blending of visuals to create an original story, and it was easy to follow. It was low key yet significant during the verses, just like the song, and then each refrain was punctuated by the visuals appropriately. Very awesome. A little jarring when it wasn't taken seriously in the end; maybe they didn't want to seem pretentious (though I felt it had the right to remain serious, personally).
Speaking of which...
"Fluffy Kittens & Rainbows" was a nominee but I watched it anyway cuz the title caught my eye. The creator was using it to call out how often pretentious amv.org has become. The read on the video page was very refreshing. And the video itself was fun as heck; cute anime girls set to hard rock, but in a very skillful and even fitting way. I enjoyed the heck out of it. And feel a little more inspired again, to do things my own way instead of worrying about what the famous bigwigs think.
