Well, he already acted like he wanted to go out so I went out with him, sat with him for a while. He just sat there cleaning himself, relaxed and unworried, though he looked toward any sounds that happened. So he does know how to be cautious, yet isn't bothered by being outside. So I went back in (he didn't even try to follow me, just lounged around where he was), then later I went to work and he was gone.
I figure maybe he belongs to someone really nearby (maybe one of my neighbors) and he came right into my house because it looked similar to his own.
So, if that's the case, he should be found by now. If I do see him again though, then I might ask around.
I think he'll be alright. He acted like he's never been badly hurt in his whole life, and yet seemed so aware of his surroundings that it may be because of his own skill as well as protection by his family. So if they love him that much, they'll seek him out, but he's most likely found his way back by now. I hooope. :3

I really hope he is reunited with his family. I hope someone loves him enough to take him. sounds like a really pretty cat.

Story time:
On the day of the weird motorcycle-guy in the park, after I'd left to go get lunch, I noticed a large spider had a partial web in an open rung between my side-view mirror and the car. I was like "Oh man, I gotta let her go somewhere." But she's one of those big open-air-web spiders, who makes the large sprawling vertical webs at night on porches and such. The only non-paved areas around McDonald's were open grass, nowhere suitable for her to make her web.
These spiders aren't meant for trekking, and she'd lose too much energy trying to find a place to build a web and surely die. So I had to get her among trees. So back to the park I started driving.
I tried to drive carefully, but traffic flow was fast and I couldn't hold everyone back over a spider, so I drove with my hand out the window to catch her in case the wind tore her off. Sure enough, her web gave way when we were halfway there. She bounced off my hand and tumbled somewhere into the car.
I was like "Uh oh," and tried to look for her, but had to concentrate on driving. First glances, couldn't find her. Second glance, she was clinging near the door handle on the inside. Third glance, missing again. When I got to the park, I looked and looked, but couldn't see where she'd gone (She'd tried to make web-anchors on the inner side to hang on better, but wasn't on these).
I felt bad that I hadn't been able to help her (and a little mentally prepared in case she might get under one of my legs and get hurt and bite me, that'd suck for both of us), and just tried to enjoy the scenery of the park while I ate my lunch. But then, when I was done and was about to turn the ignition on, I spotted something...
That big, round spider was hanging in the air between the front of my car and the hill beyond the pavement and sidewalk (a good 15-18 feet). She'd somehow figured out exactly where to climb up, climb out, let out a float-line, which just happened to catch at the perfect altitude on the hill, then she anchored it and was tight-roping to safety. All by herself.
I had a lot of work to do so I couldn't wait for her to get all the way to the hill, but I let her get past the sidewalk to some grass before I carefully severed the line with my hand (it took a few tries for it not to stick to me) so I could drive off without dragging her with me again.
The other end of the line was still anchored, so she definitely could still get a good way up the hill, and get to one of the great many trees available.
It was just really cool to see the resilience and resourcefulness of one of God's creatures. They just never cease to amaze me with their ability to get out of a bind given the opportunity. ^_^

Hero Rats! Finally, there are folks who recognize rats as the awesome, intelligent animals they are, and are utilizing that and their small size to save people from landmines and tuberculosis! First found out through this cute and catchy Parry Gripp video, which has more info and links in its description: www.youtube.com/watch?v=NR5VAvlz200They look so cute in those little harnesses! X3
