They keep saying they just dont have time to make a true sequel to Chrono Trigger or have time to remake FF7 or remake FF6. But then they come out and announce FFXIII-2?Seriously. They also just announced FF-Agito-13 for the PSP and FF Versus 13 isn't even fucking finished yet. Then lets not even get into the incomplete mess that is FF14. Then they top it off and announce another sequel for the fabula nova buttfuck universe that pretty much everyone considers a vastly inferior Final Fantasy compared to its predecessors. Fuck you SquareEnix, you're now fucking dead to me. I'm gonna go play a good game like Demons Souls.

Hmmmmmm..... what to say?
SquareEnix has taken too much on its plate ever since Enix joined up and their known quality/polish/uber company has taken a huge spill. I can't defend their actions, but I am one of the few who played FF13 and still intend to beat it without any hatred of the game. This isn't Star Ocean: Til the End of Time by far and I found their "simplifications" of a JRPG fit well in the little time that I had when I was playing it. Several segments thus far during its linear path justify my purchase cost of "not even a day's wage for one SE employee". To each his own of course and I don't expect anyone else to stand up for the game. It has flaws, but I like it and that's what matters to me. ;D
FF13-2 is their way of "reusing" the engine they built from scratch (again), but there's clearly ways of being able to do that without a full sequel release. The 2011 release date (JP) surprised me considering they've had others in progress (and FF14 mess) and its a bad time to really announce it. So yes, I think they messed up and lost your trust.
I've been busy supporting NIS, Aksys, and XSeed during this time and waiting for SE to release the next worthy game of purchase (last one was KH: Birth By Sleep), so maybe 3rd Birthday and/or Dissidia 2. I think they are on the same day too, so that's a big mistake too.

Though FF13 may indeed be a decent game, I have to agree with X on the direction and tact that SE seems to be taking. To me, this has the earmarks of a company that just isn't hungry anymore. The people who made the great games we remember have either moved on or are stuck in supervisory positions. Now, the next generation of Square is coasting on their predecessors' reputation.
It's a shame , really. Instead of telling great stories, they're taking the easy route.
I just want my Chrono Break, man.
