So... for the longest time the Evangelion movie has been in the background waiting for the right people to take it on.. so while that waits, there was talk and teaser trailers for a DBZ movie... NOW I heard Leonardo DiCaprio is Directing and acting in the live action versions of Akira and Ninja Scroll. AAAAAAAAAND... Keanu Reeves landed the role of Spike Speigal in Cowboy Bebop... *dies inside* www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=11653&count=0

Keanu Robot?!?! NOOO!!!
Director: "Mr. Reeves, please loosen up and try again."
Keanu: "I am loose Mister director sir. I am as loose as a goose."
Director: "Looser, come on, shake your shoulders around, swing, you're Spike Speigal, easygoing and flexible, reacting like water to whatever comes your way. Let the ice melt. Solid to liquid."
Keanu: "Liquid. I understand. Easy going." *stiffly moves shoulders up and down twice* "Like this?"
Director: "...Has anyone in your life EVER hugged you?"
Keanu: "Negative, except counting embrace scenes I have performed in my movies as a professional. Perhaps you may next inquire about the stick in my rectum? It is too ingrown and cannot be removed. I am ready to shoot the scene again, Mr. Director."
Director: "...Let's break for lunch..." -_-
I could do a whole essay on the flaws of Hollywood... They spend countless hours, CGI, makeup, props, and money to prepare an actor for their role... when they could simply make more casting calls and actually hire someone who FITS the role.
This would 1, ensure the movie production goes smoothly with the actor not having to struggle and thus more naturally fit the character, and 2, give more people an opportunity to be an actor rather than having to sigh and dream while the celebrities hog all the limelight.
I mean come on, they take skinny actors and then hire really expensive makeup artists to add pounds of fake fat and wrinkles multiple times a day, for all the days of shooting (example, The Nutty Professor). They take pretty actors and pay tons to make them artificially ugly. Why not get real fat or "ugly" people so they can have some darn fame and money and glory for once in their lives?
Why not get some easygoing people to play easygoing characters? *facepalm* If you're "acting" easygoing, anyone can tell. There's no way to fake that attitude without at least having some of the trait. Some things you can fake, yes, but not that. He'll need a miracle to pull that off. @_@
I hope society quits buying more into big-names and more into the quality of the movies themselves...

I dunno, while Keanu Reeves isnt the best actor in Hollywood he is not even close to the worst (Paul Walker, Jessica Simpson, Ice Cube?). He suffers from the Hollywood bandwagon effect where people bash him simply because its popular to bash him... and he at least kinda looks the part. It all depends on the supporting cast they give him, he somewhat plays to the level of talent that is around him. Im impartial to the casting choice, its not the greatest move ever but its a fairly safe move (whether you like it or not, his movies make a lot of money). Plus, who's more easygoing then one half of Bill & Ted?! EXCELLENT! ![](http://aardvarktheosophy.uk-free.co.uk/bt.jpg) Plus seriously, Keanu being Spike sounds alot more entertaining than Leonardo DiCaprio being Kaneda

Well don't get me wrong, I didn't even know it /was/ fashionable to pick on Keanu Reeves (No tv in my house), that was just my opinion/observation of all the movies I've seen with him in them.
I didn't see Bill n Ted though, and had forgotten about that. Did he really pull it off? You now have me intrigued... :3
And yes, like I said people migrate to the big names, so at least it would be a good way to attract viewers, particularly mainstream, and appearance-wise he is indeed fitting. So it's not like it's completely doomed at least. He just would need to prove he can act the part.
And yeah... the Akira thing... I figured he was just directing, but now he's also starring... Oh boy. Now, I like Leo personally (and Keanu; he's the face of the Matrix for crying out loud!)... but... I reeeaaaally don't feel like betting money that he can play a delinquent biker boy.
Maybe an idealized romanticized version of one, liable to break into song with his home-boys in eloquent and educated words about how badass they are, then the orchestra quiets and the spotlight follows him to a place where he gazes out and sighs, singing wistfully with stars in his eyes, dreaming of something more to the world.... PFFFFFT!!!
You never know though, maybe they'll both surprise everyone. Only time will tell for sure.

and also the big hollywood vibe they ad to anything anime kills it. They try to mainstream it with too much promotion and too much "glam" to it it cheapens it...
Look how bad hannah montana is capitalized all over the place. People do hate her for that reason alone. They would not think it is so bad if she want but for the fact you can't go 2 feet in moolymart without seeing her face or name on something that tells you something else. That they want to shove the stars in your face so bad you start to loose yourself in it.
There was this one teacher I had that was constantly quoting celebs and was so starstruck you would never se the real them. They were constantly talking about them and living thier lives instead of his own. I tried to ask if he had animals and he was quoting stuff form like 4 different movies instead of his own personal response! What kind of pitiful existance is that?
I think people have been marketed to death and thier souls are lost with it.
I do wish people would give new faces a chance and not plaster the big names in our faces so much. It would do people's phsycies so much better.

In my opinion Naruto is a hideously annoying series that is nothing but a knock-off of DragonBall Z (the series that in my opinion paved the way for every other action anime, it is to action anime what Akira was to serious anime). Naruto follows the exact same storyline formula that DBZ laid out; --Good guy gets beat up or discovers new strong enemy --Good guy finds strength to defeat bad guy --Good guy defeats bad guy --Repeat Most of the characters in the series are persistantly annoying both in their japanese and english presentations, and every character fills the exact same archetype role that a DBZ character set before it. And the fact that Naruto's story tries to take itself seriously just annoys me. When you are a ninja who wears blaze orange and runs around screaming all the time you can not make a serious show out of that. Heck, half the reason I love DB/DBZ is because the show knows its not serious. Yes there are episodes/story arcs where they have intense serious moments, however the very foundation of the show was made with joking tones within it; like how all the main characters are named after vegetables and some of their special attacks go along with this (like how Vegeta's 'gallick gun' attack is actually the 'garlic gun'). DBZ has the same level of joking overtone that Devil May Cry and Metal Gear Solid have within their respective series. Wheras Naruto's story seems to fall in line of a Gears of War or Mortal Kombat where they take themselves and the story too seriously given the over the top nature of it. And like i said before... there's a simple equation in Naruto that makes no sense. Blaze orange jump suit + annoying + loud + super clone attack = NOT A NINJA!

I can reply to X's comments AND express my opinion about Naruto with only these two words: Believe it.
..sorry remixed cat , I never had the patience for animes longer than 100 or so episodes after watching DBZ. And Naruto is extremely similar to DBZ in many ways, so for me its been-there-done-that. If it wasn't for cartoon network I probably never would have watched through DBZ, and towards the end it even got exhausting. But even so I still enjoyed the first several Sagas, and I feel its still the essential action anime for any collection.

First of all I have seen DB and DBZ and was excited about GT till I saw first few episodes and then I stopped watching. It annoyed the hell out of me. And I would like to state that DB and DBZ were the action animes of our age that drew us in. Naruto is the new wave's action anime....I just felt old there for a moment haha. And it really doesn't matter what the hell they start off on as long as they go out and look for better ones right? Honestly I would like the title to go Bleach instead of Naruto though haha. And Cat check out 666Satan Manga by Naruto's creators twin brother. Was really good story line wasn't too overly long. And he doesn't do the common fight someone get stronger method.

Good points from all on Naruto. I myself love that series, though more as one loves dessert and not a meal. The manga's much better paced since the anime drags on so it won't get ahead, and of course is filled with awful fillers and too many flashbacks. @_@
But I don't watch it for that or even the action (though there's some really neat moves in there that give me inspiration for the RPG at times, and some are just plain creative). I watch for the characters. Naruto's loudness and bright dress are what makes him unique; he's like, the anti-ninja, and I think that's the whole point. He does things his own way, even if it's against the status-quo.
He remains upbeat despite containing a beast that is a curse and a blessing. A creature that causes the town to hate him, then the more he fights to earn their approval he so desperately longs for... the more he keeps depending on that very beast. It's a tenuous balance that is tipping more and more as the story progresses.
The closer he gets to being accepted by other people, the closer he gets to potentially killing them all. It's a profound and tense undertone below his bubbling enthusiasm.
Also the running theme is friendship... or even more, a word that doesn't quite translate from Japanese. There are "tomodachi", which translates to "friends"... but then there are "nakama". It's a term that is often adapted as "comrade" or "squadmate", but by application it would more mean "non-related family". The bond with "nakama" is unconditional, like a family. No matter how much time goes by without communication, or how much one member seems to betray the others, it is nearly impossible to just give up on them.
Friends, tomodachi, come and go, they find incompatibilities and may eventually break up and move on. Tomodachi are dear to you, but can be temporary and change as your life changes.
Nakama are for life. Through thick and thin, rather than say "well, we're just not compatible" and moving on, something compels you to bring them out of the darkness and into the light, or struggle to stay with them, no matter how far they get from you. That is the relationship the main squad shares with Sasuke, and why the pursue him so relentlessly, going through so much hell for him, despite him over and over insisting he's too far gone and one of the "bad guys" now.
Naruto has an uncany understanding for the pain of others, having been through so much persecution himself. He knows how to bring out the good in so many chilling villains, such as Gaara. And he is extremely loyal to his nakama. He had been so lonely for so much of his life, that he will NOT give up anyone who finally accepts him easily.
I've been through much of the same, persecuted for my Polish heritage and strange personality, avoided by my peers, and separated through distance. To me, my friends are "nakama", not just "tomodachi". The bonds are so deep and dear to me. Watching Naruto continue to fight so hard to keep his own bonds alive, helps inspire me to do the same, with such devotion.
It's more than just the poorly dubbed "Believe it!" and facepalm filler episodes... It's a tale of testing friendship to limits yet untouched by any other anime I've seen, and weighing the values of companionship against the heavy burdens of society, evil deeds, and misjudgement. How far can one go in one's devotion until it's lunacy? How long can hope hold out until it becomes hopeless? If you give up one second too soon, do you forfeit what could have been saved one second later? How much more can one boy give?
Yes, it can get rather heavy for seeming such a light-hearted series... but isn't that what life itself is? Life isn't only comedy or only tragedy or only action. It's all of these things, ebbing and flowing, or suddenly changing from one to the other. A story doesn't have to relegate itself to a single genre or mood; I find them more relateable if they have the full range, like life itself.
But yeah, nobody HAS to like it; it's still got its flaws as mentioned above, some folks just want tight genre or less flip-flopping... and less garish orange annoyance. So I'm definitely not gonna disagree with anyone who never acquired a taste for this rather polarized show. But, I personally like it, for the reasons I gave, rather than many who claim to liek it cuz Sause-kay iz so kewl lolol SHARINGAN!!! So at least I'm not a Narutard, lol. I just... like the story. ^_^;;
