Lynx glared across the horizon as he slowly walked along a huge and endless plain. The plain was full of...grass, grass, and more grass.
Lynx had no idea how he had gotten there. His yellow eyes pierced through the night sky and he stopped. He heard something above him, and it was coming closer. He feared it would come to this. He extended his left arm and summoned his scythe. The recently renowed Scythe of Imbrium, the Sea of Rains, appeared in his claw-like hand in a flurry of negative energy, and he grasped it and turned around to face whatever was coming.
He twitched a whisker when he found out that the stalker was a huge machine, with two ski-like structures projecting from its bottom, a fin-like structure from its posterior, and spinning blades slicing up the air above it. The front of this mysterious machine was shielded by a near-black covering that he couldn't see through, but was pretty sure that whatever was inside could see back. This machine landed on the ground next to him, and he prepared to strike.
Before he could do so, the side of the machine opened up and a man came out. Lynx's eyes widened in surprise.
Man: Hello, Lynx. You're coming with us.
Lynx: *still holding weapon in a fixed position* You...know my name?
Man: Yes. We all know about you and what function you could serve to us.
Lynx: *eyes unchanging* Function? What is it that you want with me?
Man: We want you to help us find the Element of Prosperity in the Valley of the Promised.
Lynx: *growls and lets scythe down, but still in a position to strike if needed* Element? Go find your own! There's plenty where I come from.
Man: *reaches into his jacket* If you don't come with us, I shall have to restrain you and take you by force.
Lynx: *scowls* I never said I WASN'T coming with you. Before I decide, though, tell me about this Element...the Valley you're talking about...and where the hell I am.
The man just stared at Lynx for a few seconds, then answered, "You are on the Beta Continent. Here we at the Senate work to find the Valley...
OOC: here he goes on and says everything that's already explained in the storyline.
IC:
...and so we want to find this Element. But we have no idea where to start, and we believe that you can help us."
Lynx, astonished by the story, unsummoned his scythe and slowly said, "If you have been looking for this Element for such a long time, why hadn't you come look for me before?"
The man glared at him and shouted, "Because you were never here before now!"
These words struck Lynx like a weapon. Never here before? What did that mean? Suddenly he remembered. He had been elsewhere before, seeking to find a radiant power source that--
"Well? Make up your mind," the man interrupted.
"One last question. Why do you think I am able to help you find something that is so unable to be found?"
"Because of your ability to find things, of course," the man retorted. "Don't you remember how you found everything in your previous life?"
He remembered. He was able to find a certain young kid, AND a certain place, AND that certain power source that he had sought. Now he knew why this man wanted him to help so badly.
"I see where you're going," Lynx said, twitching a whisker. "And what if I were to refuse? What if you sent me to find it, and I actually do find it, and i steal it and disappear forever? What would you do?"
The man, angered, pulled out the device under his jacket. He aimed it at Lynx and pulled the trigger. An arc of blue light shot out and struck him. Lynx fell unconscious.
"Wake up, Sleeping Beauty."
Someone punched Lynx square in the side of the face. He opened his eyes and glared at his attacker, not for the punch, but for the childish analogy.
A group of twelve men were facing him. He snarled and started to bring his arms up--but his arms were tied to a chair. They obviously underestimate my true power, Lynx thought. They think they can restrain me with just a rope? He began to use the back of his hand to dig his claws into the rope to cut it, but found that the center of the rope was stainless steel.
"That won't work," the man whom he had met previously said, with a devious grin on his face. "We here at the Senate don't take chances."
"Now, let's begin," another Senator said. This particular Senator came up to Lynx and stared into his eyes. Lynx growled angrily. The Senator chuckled and said, "NOW, will you help us find this element? Or shall we go to...more extreme measures?" He pulled out a device and pressed a button on it. A jolt of pain surged through Lynx's right shoulder, then increased and brought about a wave of agony. He had never felt anything like this!
"You WILL help us find this element," another Senator said. He walked up to Lynx and smiled. "I assure you, you will. If you refuse or restrain against our will at any time, we will activate that little device. If you continue to fight against it, we will increase it until it kills you. Got it?"
"Just who do you think you are?" Lynx snarled in fury.
"People call me The Apprentace."
Lynx looked up at him, then focused his energy. The shadows of the room swirled about, causing distraction to the senators. He then, without the use of any hand gestures, summoned a Feral Cat to strike a smoke detector. He summoned another one to hold off the Senators, and a third to destroy the chair he was in. The rope was just too hard for the cat to destroy or claw through.
The first cat leaped up and bashed into the smoke detector. It went up in flames, and at the same time sprinkled water downward at everyone. The third cat broke the chair, and Lynx slipped out of the rope with ease. He turned to face the Senators, then unsummoned his cats.
"Don't think you're done yet!" the one with the device yelled. He pressed down on it.
Lynx reached for his shoulder as he felt the agony sear through his body. He saw a tracer-like bug on his shoulder. He tried to rip it off, but it stuck to him like cement. He turned his attention to the smoke detector. Fire had spread out on the roof, and the room was soaking with water. Fire and water...fire and water...
Lynx ordered the shadows in the room to stop swirling, then brought them together. He sent them flying about towards the fire and water, then gathered them up again and pointed at the Senators.
"Dark Eternal!"
At the last second, though, another jolt of pain in his arm sent his finger off-target, and he pointed at the wall instead. The wall burst open in such force that all the Senators were sent flying to the other side. Indeed, much havoc was apparant after the destruction of the wall, but the target was not the wall. It didn't matter. Lynx ran to the hole and jumped out...and looked down. He was suspended in air when he realized that he was over a quarter-mile above the ground. He tumbled down head-first and closed his eyes. When he reached an altitude of 20 yards, he opened his eyes and muttered, "Dark Vanishing!" He disappeared on the spot.
He reappeared on the ground. The Senators, up above, were yelling some obscene words and pointing at Lynx.
"It doesn't matter," the Apprentace said. "He WILL find the Element for us. He will give it to us on a golden platter." he chuckled.
Meanwhile, Lynx silently ran away. Many questions formed in his mind, but the ones on top was, What is he to do now? Why aren't the Senators using that annoying device to give him pain right now? Who is that Apprentace person? What if he DOES go after this Element? What would he do if he were to find it? Use it? Destroy it? Give it to someone else? He ran off, unsure of what to say to himself at the moment.
